A local supermarket in Moana, South Australia partnered with Energy Loop to upgrade their energy infrastructure with a large-scale solar and battery storage system. The goal was to reduce electricity costs, increase energy independence, and improve sustainability by using solar generation paired with robust battery storage.
As a high-energy-use commercial property, the supermarket required:
A large solar array to generate significant on-site renewable energy,
A high-capacity battery system to store excess energy for use during peak demand or grid outages,
A solution that delivers long-term savings and supports sustainability goals.
Energy Loop proposed a customised Alpha ESS solar and battery solution based on the site’s usage profile, roof orientation, and future energy requirements.
The combined system captures sunlight during the day, offsets daytime consumption, and stores surplus energy for use when the sun isn’t shining — helping to reduce grid dependency and maximise return on investment.
The installation process included:
A detailed site assessment to determine optimal panel layout and battery placement,
Engineering design to ensure maximum solar yield and system efficiency,
Full installation of the 39.6kW solar system and Alpha ESS battery,
Commissioning and system testing to ensure reliable operation.
All work was completed by Energy Loop’s experienced, certified installers, with attention to safety, performance, and long-term reliability.

Thanks to the new system, the supermarket now benefits from:
✅ Lower electricity costs by self-consuming solar energy
✅ Reduced peak demand charges through battery use
✅ Backup power capability during grid disruptions
✅ Improved sustainability credentials with onsite renewable energy
✅ Long-term energy independence and reduced carbon footprint
The Alpha ESS integration ensures stored energy is managed intelligently — helping the business maintain efficient operations while reducing reliance on expensive grid electricity.
