Case Study: One Home One Energy Plan
Case Study: One Home One Energy Plan
These two newly built Adelaide homes were designed as mirror images of each other. They shared the same floor plan and similar building conditions, but the owners did not have exactly the same expectations for comfort and energy use.
Rather than automatically copying one system design across both properties, Energy Loop considered the ducted air conditioning, solar panels, battery storage and inverter capacity as connected parts of each home's overall energy plan.
This project is a practical example of our approach: One Home. One Energy Plan.
Project type: Two mirror image new homes
Location: Adelaide, South Australia
Services: Ducted air conditioning, solar and battery storage
Solar panels: 42 x 475W LONGi solar panels
Solar capacity: 19.95kW
Inverters: SolaX 10kW solar inverter and 7.5kW battery inverter
Battery storage: SolaX ESS 43.2kWh
Air conditioning: Daikin 12.5kW and 14kW ducted systems
The Design Challenge
Because the homes had the same layout, it would have been easy to assume that they required identical air conditioning and energy systems. However, the people living inside the homes had different priorities.
One owner wanted reliable and comfortable everyday heating and cooling. A 12.5kW Daikin ducted air conditioning system was selected for that property.
The second owner placed greater importance on reaching the desired indoor temperature quickly. Faster cooling during Adelaide summers and faster heating during winter were important requirements, so a larger 14kW Daikin ducted system was selected.
The larger unit was chosen to match the owner's comfort expectations and intended usage. This shows why ducted air conditioning should not be selected from floor area alone. Layout, glazing, insulation, orientation, zoning and occupant preferences must also be considered.
Designing Air Conditioning Solar and Battery Together
Ducted air conditioning is often one of the largest electrical loads in an Australian home. Its expected demand should therefore be considered when selecting the solar array, battery capacity and inverter output.
Battery capacity measures how much energy can be stored, while battery inverter capacity affects how much power can be supplied at one time. If the air conditioner and other appliances require more power than the battery inverter can deliver, the home may still import electricity from the grid even when energy remains stored in the battery.
For this project, Energy Loop considered the Daikin ducted systems together with the LONGi solar panels, SolaX inverter and SolaX battery storage. The goal was to coordinate daytime consumption, solar generation, battery charging and the expected demand of the homes' major appliances.
Why Use One Company for the Complete Energy Plan
Homeowners often speak to one company about air conditioning and another company about solar and battery storage. Each product may work correctly, but no one may assess how the major systems will operate together.
Energy Loop designs and installs ducted air conditioning, solar panels, battery storage, heat pump hot water systems, EV chargers and related electrical solutions across Adelaide. This allows our team to consider the home's major energy requirements as one connected system.
For a new build, early coordination can also help builders and homeowners plan electrical capacity, equipment locations, cable pathways and future energy needs before construction is complete.
The Result
The homes may look identical, but their owners have different comfort expectations and energy requirements. Instead of duplicating one package, Energy Loop designed each solution around the people who would live in the property.
The completed project brought together Daikin ducted air conditioning, LONGi solar panels, SolaX inverter technology and SolaX ESS battery storage within one coordinated home energy plan.
The right system should be designed around the household, not only the floor plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can two identical homes use different air conditioning systems
Yes. Even when homes share the same floor plan, the most suitable air conditioning capacity can vary according to comfort expectations, zoning preferences, building conditions and intended usage.
Why should air conditioning and battery inverter capacity be considered together
The inverter controls how much power the battery can deliver at one time. If the air conditioner and other appliances require more power than the battery inverter can supply, the home may still import electricity from the grid.
Can Energy Loop install air conditioning solar and batteries in Adelaide
Yes. Energy Loop designs and installs ducted air conditioning, solar panels, battery storage, heat pump hot water systems, EV chargers and related electrical solutions across Adelaide and South Australia.
